Guinea Pigs as Pets

Guinea pigs can make excellent pets for both children and adults as they are cute, cuddly, and very friendly. However, having a guinea pig as a pet will require a lot of work cleaning its cage, and taking care of the guinea pig. If you want to get a guinea pig, are you sure you will care for the guinea pig its whole life? It can live up to five to seven years!

Guinea pigs are herd animals, so they should be in pairs of two or more. Are you prepared to take care of two or more guinea pigs?

Will you have time to play with your guinea pig(s) and give it a lot of attention everyday?

Will you have time to feed it, and clean its cage?

Do you have a place to put the guinea pigs? (Don't put them in closets)

Will you have time to groom your guinea pigs?

Is anyone in the house allergic to guinea pigs?

If you answered yes to all of the questions, then you are ready to have a guinea pig. The next step is to look at which breed of guinea pig you would like to have.
